Sensitive scalp, allergies, and color-treated hair

Last updated on Apr 18, 2026

Most customers with sensitive scalps or color-treated hair use Swiss Biolabs without issue. Here's what to know.

Sensitive scalp

Our formulations are sulfate-free, paraben-free, and fragrance-minimal. The GHK-Cu peptide is well-tolerated, and licorice root is actually calming for irritated scalps.

If you have a very sensitive scalp:

  • Patch test first. Apply a small amount of serum or spray behind your ear for 48 hours and watch for a reaction.
  • Start with one product. Don't begin the full routine all at once — add products one at a time so you can identify any sensitivity.
  • Skip GLOW during active flare-ups. If your scalp is inflamed, broken, or acutely reactive, let it calm down before microneedling.

Allergies

The two most common things we've seen reported:

  • Copper sensitivity (rare) — avoid any product with GHK-Cu if you know you're allergic
  • Licorice sensitivity (uncommon) — check the full ingredient list before using

If you have a history of topical allergies, always patch test first.

Color-treated hair

Safe. None of our products strip, bleed, or fade hair color. Some customers report that consistent use keeps color looking fresher longer — likely because of improved scalp circulation and less buildup.

If you're just out of a salon — wait 48 hours after coloring before your next GLOW session to let the scalp settle.

Chemically-straightened, permed, or keratin-treated hair

Also safe. Our shampoo and conditioner are gentle enough not to compromise chemical treatments.

When to stop

If you experience persistent redness, itching, or burning beyond the light tingling that's expected from GLOW, stop and email us. We'll review with you.
