What is GHK-Cu and why we use it

Last updated on Apr 18, 2026

GHK-Cu — the star of our formulation — isn't a new compound. It's a naturally-occurring copper peptide that your body produces to signal cellular repair. Here's what it actually does and why it's central to Swiss Biolabs.

The short version

GHK-Cu is a small peptide made of three amino acids (glycine, histidine, lysine) bound to a copper ion. Your body uses it to trigger tissue regeneration. Levels drop with age — from their peak in your 20s, they fall by roughly half by your 60s.

Supplementing GHK-Cu directly on the scalp, especially with a delivery system like microneedling, restores the signal your follicles need to activate.

What it does on the scalp

  • Reactivates dormant follicles — signals stem cell activity in the hair bulge
  • Improves blood vessel formation (angiogenesis) around follicles — more circulation means more nutrients
  • Supports collagen and elastin synthesis — stronger scalp tissue
  • Reduces scalp inflammation — a calmer environment for growth

Why the copper

Copper binds to the peptide. It's a cofactor your body already uses in tissue repair and pigmentation. That binding is part of why the GHK-Cu complex is more active than plain GHK alone.

How we deliver it

In our GLOW Peptide Infusion serum, GHK-Cu is paired with:

  • Licorice root — DHT-modulating support
  • Black sesame — traditional follicle support
  • Ginger extract — circulation stimulant

The microneedling delivery in GLOW helps the peptide reach the follicle layer directly, which is significantly more effective than topical application alone.

What it's not

GHK-Cu isn't a drug. It's not a substitute for prescription treatments in cases of severe medical hair loss. But for the vast majority of people experiencing thinning, reduced density, or a stalled scalp — it's one of the most well-studied compounds available.
